An Eye for Talent and a Talent for Networking

Welcoming more new clients every week, ?lan Management Group is making a name for itself as a talent pool for the film industry and the place to go for representation as a professional actor. Owner Tammie Eros is constantly expanding her business, raising industry standards, and improving her services by using a basic business tool with expert ability. The tool is networking.

The 30 year-old entrepreneur initially entered the film industry as a choreographer, instantly enjoying the positivity and excitement. “The film industry is so interesting and enriching,” Tammie exclaims. “It’s an opportunity to experience something different every day, and representation was where I found my home in it.” Even then, Tammie was networking, making contacts that would have an impact on her future business.

“I started approaching people directly, seeking out supporting agencies and exploring all my options for funding, support and training,” Tammie says. “I hit the jackpot when I met with TACC, they shoulder all of these services!” Tammie continued networking to meet the right graphic artists and web developers to service ?lan.

Quick to acknowledge branding, brochures and business cards as essential networking instruments, Tammie’s marketing materials got her company name and contact information into circulation. “The branding of our corporate image clearly defines us to our clients and potential clients. I constantly try to get out there and use our website and marketing materials to let more people know we’re here,” says Tammie. “I try to generate enough word-of-mouth advertising to get people coming to us. I also use networking to get the attention of casting directors, to speak directly to them and start building a relationship of trust.” Establishing relationships is the goal of networking, and Tammie’s tips offer you the most effective tools.

“The internet is our number one networking tool,” says Tammie. “Through the database on our website, we can pitch our clients. It makes us easy to find and easy for potential clients to apply. Word-of-mouth is our number two, creating personal referrals. When you offer a great service and your clients are satisfied, they’ll tell other people about you. This is especially important for new business owners.”

“If you’re starting your own company, have your image and branding ready to promote your identity. Be prepared to give people a card or brochure, something to refer back to you. Research and be choosey with your networking events - they do take time. Choose two or three and be an active participant within them. Most importantly, stay in touch with your networks!”

Whether you choose to use Tammie’s methods or your own, honing your networking skills will bring new business opportunities by discovering new resources, forming alliances and increasing your client base. By planning ahead, selectively joining groups and noting what resources produce your best results, you will continue to make contacts that will strengthen your business.
