Assessing where you are... |
By Denise Findlay and Tamara Goddard
As an entrepreneur, it’s remarkably
easy to lose your way. Even after you have labored over your business
plan and carefully planned your business’s goals it remains excessively
easy to get whisked away by the day to day drama and business of
running your business.
As clarity gets lost among a mountainous to-do list, goals we have set
and lifestyles we strive toward begin to drift farther away. So how do
we pull these goals closer? With so much going on in the business and
so many aspects needing to be considered, assessing where you’re
currently at can seem a daunting task. Yet if you are serious about
achieving those goals you’ve set out and living that life-style you’ve
dreamed about, then assessing where your own self as well as you’re the
health of your business is essential. After all, how can you walk a
path if you can’t find the starting point?
Part 1 - Self Assessment
Making time to reflect on your life, in my opinion, inevitably leads to
greater self awareness. Elevating awareness is the most effective way
to take your self off auto pilot. You can then seriously reflect how
satisfied you with life and what changes you are willing to make to
create more personal fulfillment. Isn’t this the reason you went into
business for yourself in the first place?
In Part 1 of Self Assessment you will be given the opportunity to
reflect on some things you may not have thought of before. Our
intention is for you to be inspired towards a vision of those things
that bring you fulfillment and that you may not have thought possible
before. Once you have completed your self assessment I would encourage
you to think about goals which will move you forward with focus,
momentum, and excitement. So, take some quiet time to yourself, sit
down with paper and pen and reflect on the questions below:
1. Make a list of the major “things” you have been doing towards your personal and professional goals until now.
2. List 3 – 5 items you are ready to declare you want for yourself (i.e. $, success, adventure).
3. List 3-5 items you are ready to release or let go of (i.e. ego, doing it own your own, stumbling in the dark).
4. List 3-5 things you are prepared to do to accomplish your goals.
5. Write down as many words as you can think of that describe who you want to BE.
6. Chose 10 words from above and use them to write a paragraph of your life/business vision.
7. Who are you BEING when you get your best results?
8. Who are you being when you fall apart?
9. Who did you need to BE in order to get this far?
10. What limiting beliefs are you holding about your life/business?
11. What powerful belief will you choose to hold about your business?
12. What does it feel like to be between where you are now and where you want to be?
13. What’s the cost to you and your business of staying in between?
14. Where are you willing to move forward into ACTION?
15. What would support you to take the next step?
16. What’s in the way?
17. What would be the most empowering action you could take to move forward?
18. What would this action give you and how would it inspire you?
19. Write a list of all you offer and the difference your contribution makes.
20. What are you passionate about?
21. What are your top 5 values? How well do you honor them on a scale of 1-10?
22. What are your fears and concerns about yourself and/or life/business at this time?
23. Life 5 adjectives that describe you at your best?
24. List 5 adjectives that describe you at your worst?
25. What are the three things that you want to make happen in the next three months, year, 5 years?
26. What does success look like for you and how do you define it?
27. What you think about your current circumstances what motivates you the most to do something differently?
28. What thoughts or feelings typically sabotage you from change or reaching goals?
29. What do you need to remember as you move towards your goals?
30. What are the most important primary relationships in your personal / professional life?
31. What qualities make them strong or weak for you?
32. How would you describe your relationship with money?
33. What is a vision of the future that motivates you?
34. If time and money were not an issue what would you do with your life?
35. At the end of your life how will you know you have lived to your full potential?
In Part 2 of Self Assessment you will have the opportunity to set some
goals for yourself and your business as well as assess the health of
your business.
