I love this time of year and want to share a wonderful ritual I
have adopted into my own life. Practicing this ritual helps highlight
the challenges and successes I experienced during the year, and clears
space for the powerful manifestation of my desires for the New Year. It
helps me achieve what I want, and it will work for you too!
This
is the time of year that I can slow down, take a deep breath and really
take stock of what happened throughout the past year. Not only does
this ritual help me acknowledge these experiences, it gives me a chance
to relive and celebrate all the wins and learning that took place. I
find that most of us don’t ever look back at what has happened and tend
to focus on what’s ahead, not realizing the impact our previous actions
or inactions has on us. This ritual enables us to keep what worked, let
go of what didn’t, and take responsibility for everything as a way of
moving into the New Year empowered.
My
ritual consists of 4 parts, and I invite you to adopt this powerful
ritual into your own life. Set aside some time to simply be, and
reflect on the events of the last 12 months.
1. Recognition and celebration of all of the learning that took place this year:
-
Make an inventory of your success this year. What were the high points?
-
Where did your greatest learning take place this
year?
-
How will you integrate this learning into the New Year?
-
What challenges did you overcome this
year?
-
What can you say about yourself now that you could not previously say?
-
What are the “jewels” you
discovered this year that you want to carry into the New Year?
-
What do you want to let go of and leave behind as you move into the New
Year? How will you let go of these things?
-
How will you celebrate the past year and honor yourself for all that you are and all that you
are becoming?
2. Setting a powerful theme for the New Year
What
kind of year will 2006 be for you? What will bring you fully alive and
jumping out of bed in the morning? Your theme should inspire your
heart. Send your intentions into the Universe and you will be amazed at
how things magically manifest for you.
Is
this the year of – being 100% Committed to Success, Being Open, Having
Fun, Taking Adventures, Risking? Whatever it may be for you, articulate
your theme then write it down. You can use the previous exercise to
help you find what is true for you, and begin 2006 in a powerful way.
What will 2006 hold for you? How will you be? Your theme will guide all
your choices and how you are in everything you do.
3. Making Commitments for the New Year
Commitments
are ongoing quality of life shifts and differ from goals. With a goal,
there is a specific point in time where you have either accomplished it
or not. It is measurable and specific. For example: you have either
increased your income 30% by September of 2006 or you have not. A
commitment is not measurable. It relates to a state of mind or being
you want to create in your life. For example: I am committed to having
joy and self-expression in my work. What are you committed to doing,
having, being during 2006?
4. What Will You Say “YES” and “NO” to in 2006?
You
can deepen your New Year’s Commitments by listing those things that you
will now be saying “YES” to and saying “NO” to in 2006. You may be
saying “YES” to Taking Risks, Going on Adventures and Following Your
Heart. You may be saying “NO” to Procrastinating, Playing It Safe and
Self Doubt. Write down 3 things you will say “YES” to and 3 things you
will say “NO” to. Once you have written them down you can affirm them
by saying them out loud to yourself, with a friend or your coach. Stand
up, state your Commitments, step over that imaginary line and state
your YES’s and NO’s!
We’d love to hear your answers, if you’d like to share
them!
